Condition & packing survey

Whether the packing, dunnage and securing are fit for the route, the season and the handling ahead. Service 02 — Before it ships.

When you instruct one.

  • The cargo is moving through ports where handling is rough and transhipment is likely.
  • A previous shipment of the same goods arrived damaged and nobody has established why.
  • An underwriter wants packing checked before accepting the risk or setting the terms.
  • The goods are sensitive to moisture, heat or vibration and the packing is the only defence.

What we do.

  • 01Inspect the packing as presented. Materials, closure, palletisation, strapping, corner protection, and whether it matches what was specified.
  • 02Check dunnage and securing. Inside the unit and against the walls: lashing points used, tension, blocking and bracing.
  • 03Test the fit against the route. Season, transhipment count, expected handling, and the climate the cargo will pass through.
  • 04Identify the weak point. Where this packing will fail first, said plainly, with what would fix it.
  • 05Record the state before closing. Photographs of the stow before the doors are shut, which is the only moment this can be recorded.

What you receive.

  • A packing and securing assessment, with the specific failure mode identified.
  • Photographic record of the stow as closed.
  • Practical recommendations, where there is still time to act on them.
  • A written note of any recommendation the shipper declined.

What we need from you

  • Packing specification, where one exists
  • The intended route and number of transhipments
  • The nature and value of the goods
  • Stuffing location, date and access

What we hold ourselves to

  • 2–24hA surveyor instructed from the network nearest the cargo.
  • 24–48hYour update on the appraisal, with photographs and the key information.
  • 72hThe detailed preliminary report, after the survey assessment.
  • 45 daysExpected turnover per mission. The final report follows the loss mitigation or destruction operation.

Attendance on site depends on distance to the port and on terminal and customs access, so that is confirmed on your file rather than promised as one number for every port on the continent.
