Damage & shortage analysis

Nature, extent and probable cause of damage; and the reconciliation of shipped, manifested, landed and delivered. Service 10 — On arrival.

When you instruct one.

  • The figures do not agree and nobody can say at which point they stopped agreeing.
  • Damage is established but its cause is disputed between shipper, carrier and terminal.
  • You need to know whether a recourse exists before spending money pursuing one.
  • Several parties handled the cargo and each points at the others.

What we do.

  • 01Build the quantity chain. Shipped, manifested, landed, delivered — each figure sourced to the document that states it.
  • 02Locate where the chain breaks. The point at which the numbers diverge is usually the point at which the loss occurred.
  • 03Establish the damage mechanism. Wet, crush, heat, contamination, handling, inherent vice — distinguished, not lumped together.
  • 04Test cause against the voyage record. Weather, stowage, ventilation, transhipment, dwell time ashore.
  • 05State what the evidence supports, and what it does not. A probable cause stated as a certainty is how a good report loses a case.

What you receive.

  • A cause and extent analysis with the reasoning shown.
  • A quantity reconciliation across the whole chain.
  • A view on where liability most likely sits, and how firmly.
  • The documentary basis for each figure used.

What we need from you

  • Bill of lading, manifest, tally sheets and delivery notes
  • Outturn or post-shipment survey report
  • The voyage and weather record, where relevant
  • Details of every party that handled the cargo

What we hold ourselves to

  • 2–24hA surveyor instructed from the network nearest the cargo.
  • 24–48hYour update on the appraisal, with photographs and the key information.
  • 72hThe detailed preliminary report, after the survey assessment.
  • 45 daysExpected turnover per mission. The final report follows the loss mitigation or destruction operation.

Attendance on site depends on distance to the port and on terminal and customs access, so that is confirmed on your file rather than promised as one number for every port on the continent.
