Vessel arrest representation

Cargo underwriters' interests protected where security or arrest is required to protect a claim. Service 17 — After the loss.

When you instruct one.

  • A vessel is about to leave and there is no security for a substantial claim.
  • The owner is unresponsive, or the ship is the only asset within reach.
  • A claim will be worthless unless it is secured while the ship is alongside.
  • You need someone on the ground in the jurisdiction, tonight.

What we do.

  • 01Assess whether arrest is available. Jurisdiction, claim type and the vessel's position — before anyone is instructed.
  • 02Instruct local lawyers. To your mandate, with the evidence already assembled.
  • 03Attend and coordinate. Port, agent, court and lawyers, from one point of contact.
  • 04Negotiate security. A club letter or a guarantee is usually the outcome; arrest is the lever, not the goal.
  • 05Report continuously. Because on an arrest, hours matter and silence is expensive.

What you receive.

  • An early view on whether arrest is available and worth pursuing.
  • Local lawyers instructed and coordinated on your behalf.
  • Security negotiated, in a form you can actually enforce.
  • Continuous reporting for the duration.

What we need from you

  • The claim, and what supports it
  • The vessel's identity, position and expected sailing
  • Your authority to incur cost, and its limit
  • Any existing correspondence with owners

What we hold ourselves to

  • 2–24hA surveyor instructed from the network nearest the cargo.
  • 24–48hYour update on the appraisal, with photographs and the key information.
  • 72hThe detailed preliminary report, after the survey assessment.
  • 45 daysExpected turnover per mission. The final report follows the loss mitigation or destruction operation.

Attendance on site depends on distance to the port and on terminal and customs access, so that is confirmed on your file rather than promised as one number for every port on the continent.
