On-board survey

Attendance at the rail and in the holds: stowage, securing, ventilation and any pre-existing damage. Service 04 — While it moves.

When you instruct one.

  • Cargo is already on board and its condition or securing is in question.
  • A vessel has suffered heavy weather, a shift, or an incident in transit.
  • The hold itself may be the problem — sweat, contamination, a leaking hatch.
  • A P&I interest or a charterer needs an independent view of what is actually in the ship.

What we do.

  • 01Inspect the stow in place. How the cargo sits now, against how the plan said it would sit.
  • 02Examine the hold or the unit. Cleanliness, dryness, previous cargo residue, hatch seals, ventilation arrangements.
  • 03Assess the securing. What is holding, what has worked loose, and what has already moved.
  • 04Record pre-existing damage. Separating what came aboard damaged from what happened since is most of the job.
  • 05Take conditions. Temperature, ventilation records and moisture readings where the cargo is sensitive to them.

What you receive.

  • An on-board survey report on stowage, securing and hold condition.
  • Photographic record of the stow and of any damage found.
  • A view on whether the damage is pre-shipment, stowage-related or voyage-related.
  • Readings and records where the cargo's condition depends on them.

What we need from you

  • Stowage plan and cargo manifest
  • Vessel, voyage and berth or anchorage
  • Any incident or heavy weather report
  • Who is arranging access on board

What we hold ourselves to

  • 2–24hA surveyor instructed from the network nearest the cargo.
  • 24–48hYour update on the appraisal, with photographs and the key information.
  • 72hThe detailed preliminary report, after the survey assessment.
  • 45 daysExpected turnover per mission. The final report follows the loss mitigation or destruction operation.

Attendance on site depends on distance to the port and on terminal and customs access, so that is confirmed on your file rather than promised as one number for every port on the continent.
